Debunked DP "Facts"

The place to be where I take the well known rumors and "facts" that the fandom has spread throughout the internet, then twist their hopeful hearts and tell them they're dead wrong because crushing souls makes me happy. If you still believe in any of these rumors after you read ‘em, consider yourself GANNON-BANNED.

If, by some chance, I am wrong, please e-mail me. If you have heard of a widely spread DP rumor you know it isn’t true, please e-mail me, too so that I can add it. The more evidence, the better because I will get cynical and not believe you otherwise.

There is no Danny Phantom Season Four

The series ended, okay, folks? There is no Season Four. I doubt there ever will be. As devoted as the fandom was (and still is), the problem was that DP didn’t cater enough decent ratings for Nickelodeon to further renew the series. There could be a number of reasons: they didn’t get the target audience they wanted (it seems more teenagers and adults preferred it as oppose to say, l’il tykes, Nick's target audience), there could have been creative differences (what with Steve Marmel having been fired), or something else entirely different then the above reasons. But rest assure, there is no season four.

Unless you hear it from an official site, a very reliable website, or Hartman himself, take it with a grain of salt. Anything you hear otherwise is false; those episode names you see in TV.com and Wikipedia are utter duds. They’re just stupid plots made up by fans who desperately want their favorite show continued or justify their equally stupid fanfics.

Hour Long Specials Count as TWO episodes

If you look at the pattern of many Nickelodeon cartoons, if not all, you will notice every season usually implies either a 20-episode or a 13-episode structure per season. DP is not an exception. Season One and Two each employed twenty while the last had thirteen. Count the hour-long as two episodes each and you’ll see they add up to a grand total of 53 episodes. Even the recent DP DVDs split the episode "Reign Storm" as Part One and Two respectfully. Nothing more, nothing less.

The PROPER Episode Order

This isn't the fans' fault. Nickelodeon created this mess that in turn caused the fandom to go on a tizzy over the proper episode order. The first instance was airing "Fright Night" before "13" and "Public Enemies". Alright, that’s cool, Nick. Neither episodes overlap one another and there isn’t a continuity issue. Understandable that you wanted to get out the Halloween episode early in time for, ya know, Halloween.

But sometimes you screwed up. You screwed up big. After airing "Reign Storm", Nickelodeon proceeded to air it’s next movie, "The Ultimate Enemy". This was the heaviest promoted DP episode (and did fairly well in the ratings, if I remembered); there’s a [passable] GBA video game that was to come out, Burger King toys, an entire Nick Mag issue based on it—all for the promise of an evil that far exceeded Danny’s expectation. So much so that advertisements refused to expose who (though that hasn’t stopped the internet from relaying the message).

Afterwards, "Identity Crisis and "The Fenton Menace" aired. Both episodes come before "TUE" and unfortunately, observant fans has noticed. "IC"? No. Not that one (though one can subtly argue Danny splitting himself in two would be disgusting to him if this episode took place after "TUE"). "TFM", very yes. Jazz was still in a stage where she kept Danny’s secret from himself, an element resolved in "TUE".

It gets worse. The last three episodes took aired backwards. "Kindred Spirits" aired first, followed by "Double Cross My Heart" and "Reality Trip". It’s not as problematic as the "TUE" one, but it shows. "Reality Trip" was yet again an attempt to promote the episode and it’s summer school theme. The episode played on Danny’s secret being revealed to the public, but both "DCMH" and "KS" indicates how plain obvious Danny gains his secrecy by end. What could have been an enticing tale that would have kept fans' on the edge of their seat was ruined by an unintentional spoiler (not that "RT" was that great of an episode to begin with). Unfortunately the airing also caused the fans to assume "Reality Trip" is the Season Two finale. It ain’t. That’s "Kindred Spirits."

Oh, but it doesn’t end there. No, sir. The next out-of-order act Nickelodeon played was yet another promotion (notice the pattern), this time with "Urban Jungle", the sixth episode of Season Three. Another video game was introduced (not as passable) and the hosts of Nickelodeon freezed a bunch of junks on public television based on a voting system of various items you could click on in Nick’s official site. This was meant to coincide with Danny’s new ice powers. Again, two big elements caused continuity problems because the episodes prior to "UJ" haven't aired yet. 1. Vlad Masters as mayor of Amity Park and 2. Danny's familiarity with the character of Frostbite.

Fans were noticeably confused. And it didn’t help that the first five episodes prior aired in other countries, but not the US (for a good year, frustratingly), meaning many youtubing and downloads. Unfortunately some unknowing fans were under the delusion that these episodes came LATER despite the glaring lack of evidence as such. And to add one final insult to injury, "Eye for An Eye" came on after Nickelodeon aired a week of new episodes (for the US) starting with "Infinite Realms" to "Livin‘ Large" when that should have been the Season Three premiere.

And on a final note, sometimes the production tends to switch "Parental Bonding" and "One of A Kind" around.

On a filler-based episode, this wouldn’t have been a problem, but Danny Phantom uses continuity and Myth Arcs. And it’s plain to see. In the end, it caused a wide range of confusion from various fans, persistent even today. So here I set the record straight. If you need a full chart of how the episodes are suppose to be in order, just hop on over to the episodes page and see for yourself.

THERE IS NO JAPANESE DUB OF DANNY PHANTOM

I cannot stress this enough! I say this with [tough] love, especially to the idiots who post this constantly on the Danny Phantom Wikipedia page (which I'm getting tired of cleaning up their messes, by the way).

THERE. IS. NO. JAPANESE. DUBBED. DP.

I don’t know why there isn’t a Japanese dubbed Danny Phantom yet. Japan’s official Nickelodeon site has nothing on DP as far as I know. Will there be one? Maybe. Who knows? I'll welcome it. But there isn’t at this moment. I don’t know why you people insists this so goddamn constantly other then your irritating love for anime made you retain this bullshit suspension of disbelief.

But there isn’t. Sorry if I burst your bubble, but that's life. Deal. The closest equivalent I could find was Korean TurboNick. I used to have a link here, but it has since been region-locked and can only be viewed by South Koreans. Shame, Vlad sounded robotic as Plasmius; it was much LULZ.

The following names are NOT canon

*Sanchez: The surname given to Paulina. I don’t know who started this, especially since it originated before my time as a DP fan. "Sanchez" has since become a somewhat universal surname for Paulina, but people have it confused for the real deal when, as far as I know, it’s as fan-made as Danielle Phantom should be.

For the record, "Sanchez" was not uttered in any of the episodes either. Most fans claim Lancer spouted it at one point (episodes usually associated with it is either "Parental Bonding" or "Memory Blank"), but this is a common misconception.

*James: Danny's middle name. Also fanon.

*William: The name fans gave Lancer's first name to be.

*Dan Phantom: Never is this name utilized in any other context outside of the video game. Even though it’s based on "TUE", the game itself still maintains a separate continuity outside of the TV series. The series credits Danny’s evil self as "Dark Danny" and I believe this is what Butch Hartman calls him (at least in one interview). "Phantom" is also canonically acceptable, a name Valerie spouts in the series.

But Dan Phantom is canon ONLY to the video game and has no placement in the series itself.

*Devan: A recent nickname: Devan is the "true" name given to Ghost Writer, named because it means "poet". Again, faaaaaaan made.

For that matter, NONE of the video games are canon

The two DP games are different enough to substitute as their own canon. Danny doesn’t get fire powers, doesn’t battle a monster called Meat-N-Potatoes, nor are their beings called "ObserVERS", and Clockwork is not blue in the actual series. These are all game exclusives (though the latter two may just be pre-production that got changed during the making of the episode special; the game probably never had the time or chance to change it).

Danny’s appearance in other Nickelodeon games are also non-canon. I speak this with venom again to the people who edit DP’s Wikipedia. Some jerk(s) always adds in the cast of the Nicktoons: Unite series as buddies of Danny as if it were canon to the series. Guess what? It’s not. That kind of info can go in the Nicktoons: Unite wiki page, buddy, because it didn’t happen in the series.

Yeah, like Danny would really go-kart with Vlad.

For that matter, there is no DP/Fairly Oddparents crossover, either

There isn't. Get over it. They may both be Hartman's babies, but FOP is lighthearted, joke-filled, loose continuity-driven, and unable to take themselves seriously while DP is much more grounded in its reality. They're two different genres and decently far apart that it doesn't work. They don't mesh. There is no crossover and there most likely will not be. Just write a crappy fanfic about it.

The closest we got as a cameo was from Dash who appeared in a recent Fairly Oddparents episode ("Fly Boy"), but that hardly constitutes as a crossover.

"Lucky in Love" is NOT a Valentine's Day Special

The episode was merely chosen by Nickelodeon to be its mandatory V-Day line-up. Probably because it has "love" in the title, I don't know. The episode never stated it's V-Day whatsoever and there are NO evidence that points it as such.

If you want DP V-Day, there's a comic for that.
